Pianos About Town, a public art project that commissions the painting of donated pianos before placing them around Fort Collins to encourage spontaneous playing, is looking for its next crop of local artists.

Beyond the crowds of Paris and New York lies a world brimming with hidden artistic treasures. A wave of smaller cities is quietly revolutionizing the art tourism landscape.

Last night at Washington’s in Fort Collins, Colo., the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, the Bohemian Foundation, and the Colorado Sound hosted another great Sonic Spotlight Finals showcase.

Artists are being sought for the 2023 Pianos About Town program in downtown Fort Collins. The artists, as in the past, would paint or decorate pianos that are placed in outside locations around town for people to use.

A $5 million gift to be used on women’s sports at Colorado State has been earmarked to improve facilities for nearly every women’s sport on campus. The most visible impact to fans will be on CSU’s new soccer and softball complex, but other portions of the projects from the donation are aimed at improving facilities across sports.

Residents of Parklane Mobile Home Park finally own their properties. Residents of the park, located just outside city limits in northeast Fort Collins, formed a nonprofit — United Neighbors/Vecinos Unidos — to help them buy the park shortly after their landlord told them it would go up for sale in December, according to a news release from the nonprofit.

The popular Pianos About Town project is a year-round program that pairs pianos with artists who paint them outside during the summer. This “art and action” gives the community a chance to meet the artists.

The City of Fort Collins started Pianos About Town about 12 years ago, inspired by an art installation in New York at the time. The program repurposes used and donated pianos, then places the instruments around town with a catch.
